Causes of Acne

Acne, characterized by pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, nodules and in severer form by cysts and scarring affect the majority of teenagers as well as many adults. Acne is caused by blockages in follicles. Acne represent any health risks but it causes a lot of sadness and unhappiness, lack of self-esteem and in some cases even depression. Honestly speaking acne are not even a bit attractive, while people with acne are well aware of it. Although in majority of people acne eventually resolve on its own but it occurs in the most sensitive life period.

Why some people get acne and others do not is not exactly known but it is known that acne is usually closely related to several factors:

  • hormonal changes in puberty and during menstrual cycles when the levels of androgens increase, while increased amounts of androgen hormones trigger overproduction of sebum, an oily matter which normally moisturizes the skin but in increased production it develops into a whitehead if staying under the skin surface and a blackhead if it reaches the skin surface only partly
  • genetic predispositions
  • bacteria in the pores
  • certain drugs such as birth control pill and corticosteroids

Although is widely believed acne is also caused by some foods and in first place chocolate that is not the case. But there might be also some connection between some foods and acne and for that reason many expert recommend avoiding foods high in fat.

Either way, acne is a result of processes within the body and for that reason an effective acne treatment targets the imbalances and impurity inside the body and does not only treat the existing lesions. There is a variety of products which can successful remove or at least reduce acne but finding a product that really works can be a challenge if not being well informed.
