There is a variety of different treatments of acne promising quick improvement but in reality that is not often the case. Many treatments of acne are not scientifically proven, while majority of acne products are only treating the existing blemishes topically and do not prevent forming of new ones. Most common acne treatments include bactericidal products such as benzoyl peroxide, triclosan or chlorhexidine, antibiotics and retinoids which are applied topically or orally. All acne treatments have their advantages and disadvantages including side effects which range from mild to severe. For that reason is very important to be well informed over certain product and its eventual side effects regardless if you intend to use it topically or orally. Topical treatments generally represent lesser possibility of side effects or side effects occur in milder form but you should be aware the gels and creams which are applied to the skin penetrate into the bloodstream as well. For that reason it is recommendable to consult with your physician or dermatologist if you are not sure if a certain product is safe to use. Especially careful must be pregnant and nursing women as well as all who use any medications who should not start using anything before consulting with a physician.
